The Sonora School Board is seeking “Parent “ and “Community” representatives to serve a four-year term on the Citizens Oversight Committee. The purpose of the Citizens' Oversight Committee (COC) is to inform the public concerning the expenditures of bond revenues. The committee normally meets on a quarterly basis. An interested citizen would need to be a parent who has a child in the school or a person living in the Sonora Elementary attendance area. Please contact Leigh Shampain @ 532-5491 for further information.
We are very pleased to announce our February Student of the Month, Sofia Alomia.
We were lucky to have Sofia join us at the start of 5th grade and has been with us since then. Sofia is a great athlete, having played volleyball, basketball, and track for Sonora Elementary. In the community, she also plays water polo, participates on a local swim team, does water polo and is an avid skier. In her free time, she likes hanging with friends and fishing. Next year, Sofia will be moving onto Sonora High School and plans to play water polo. From there, she plans to attend Columbia College, then move onto Chico State. She is hopeful, with her skill, to play water polo at the collegiate level and wants to graduate from Chico State with a Liberal Studies degree and become an elementary school teacher. Sofia’s teachers describe her as compassionate, motivated, a strong work ethic, responsible, and tenacious.
